Chaparral Parents and Wrestlers,
As you are aware Chaparral Youth Wrestling is a member of the WSWL, USA Wrestling, PPWL and SSWL. Every year the SSWL season starts in January and runs through Febuary. Below and attached you will find the guidelines and schedule for upcoming dual meets that are held on Tuesdays or Wednesday. Chaparral will be hosting two dual meets this year. Our first dual of the season will be on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at Chaparral High School. There will not be practice on this day. We strongly encourage everyone to attend the scheduled SSWL dual meets. I will announce this at practice this evening and will answer any questions that you may have. If your wrestler has not weighed-in with me for the SSWL duals, we must get this done tonight, in order to wrestle in Tuesdays Dual meet.
Policies and Expectations of the SSWL
1. All member clubs must be insured before competing in any SSWL event. The league does not mandate what insurance company provider you use, only that you purchase the league endorsed policy or provide evidence that you have purchased it from another provider.
2. Age group designation should be based on competitors age as of Sept. 1, 2011
3. All competitors should have wrestling shoes when competing. Singlet and head gear are not mandatory, and wrestler may wear gym shorts and t-shirt when competing.
4. If a club has wrestlers competing at a SSWL event, there must be at least one reconized coach in attendance from that team.
5. All matches are officiated by high school wrestlers, parents, or coaches, and the SSWL accepts the fact that mistakes will be made in the officiating of competitive matches.
6. No parent or coach should overturn a call made by the official, nor should they argue a call. However, it would be appropriate for a coach to remedy an error if a coach sees the error. A parent or coach may also address the concern with the tournament or meet director.
7. Once a match is final, and the competitors leave the mat, the score cannot be changed. video tape will not be used to change the outcome of a match.
8. If the safety for a wrestler(s) is in question, then a coach of any club may step in and stop the situation or educate the official in regards to the concern. Educate the official so the call is correct the next time, do not attempt to manipulate the score.
9. All clubs should be diligent about checking the condition of each wrestlers skin, before all competitions. If a wrestler has a skin issue that causes concern for a host administrator, the host administrator reserves the right to remove the wrestler from competition.
However, before doing so, he should communicate his/her concern with the head coach of the wrestler in question.
Fair and Equal Competition
10. Member clubs should classify each wrestler on their team using the following criteria:
“A” Wrestler – Four or more years experience or competitive/experienced wrestlers who should compete with other experienced wrestlers.
“B” Wrestler – Has 1-4 years of experience but has not progressed enough to be an “A” wrestler.
“C” Wrestler – Is a 1st or 2nd year wrestler, or a very weak 3rd year wrestler.
11. Pairing or staging officials will make every attempt to match up wrestlers by age and years of experience (using “A”, “B”, and “C” rating) Pairing at competitions must be done with the objective of setting up matches which are fair and competitive. Every effort must be made to keep ages within +/- one year. In addition, consider the rating for each wrestler.
Fair and Competitve Guidelines
“A” wrestlers compete against – “A” or “B” wrestlers with 4 or more years of experience.
“B” wrestlers compete against – “B” wrestlers, or “A” wrestlers with 4 or less years of experience, or “C” wrestlers with 2 or 3 years experience.
“C” wrestlers compete against – “C” wrestlers or “B” wrestlers with 3 or less years of experience.
We can go crazy trying to determine if two wrestlers should be on the mat together based on the number of years and so on.
12. The head coach of the relevant teams must approve any match that does not meet the guidelines as stated for fair competition.
Dual Meet Expectations
13. All SSWL club teams will commit to the dual meet schedule as created by the SSWL President. Do not deviate from the schedule. Any suggested changes will come through the SSWL President first.
14. Each wrestler should have his/her, age, weight, and ability level written on their shoulder. Example: 7 45 C. This would indicate the wrestler is 7 years old, 45 lbs, and is a “C” wrestler. This makes it easy to pair up wrestlers ans stage them to the mats. Do not forget this expectation.
15. Dual meets are scheduled for Tuesday or Wednesday nights from January 1, 2012 until the last week of the High School regular season.
16. Dual meets should begin at 6pm and go until 7:30pm. Host clubs should promote as much wrestling as possible during this 90 minute event.
17. Host teams may run 1:00 periods for all matches. It is at the option of the host club to run 1:30 periods for 10 & under, 12 & under, and 14 & under.
18. For dual meets, the host club should provide help to run the entire event. Visiting clubs may contribute help, but is not required.
19. In hosting a dual meet, be sure you have a venue that will seat 4-5 wrestling clubs and their family members.
PICTURE NIGHT — “Hold the Date – Monday, January 23″ Team and individual pictures will be taken on Monday, January 23 in the wrestling room starting at 5:30. The club registration fee includes one team picture and one individual picture in a standard photomat card. However, families will be able to order additional pictures with an order form that will be provided to you as we get closer to the date.
